What is the Functional Fire Ground Program?

The Functional Fire Ground Program is a new department initiative. This training evolution is designed for all personnel that operate in or around the fire scene. This practical course is comprised of eight basic firefighter skill stations. The course is completed individually in full Personal Protective Equipment (excluding face mask). Crews will complete the assessment utilizing their apparatus and equipment. Officers will schedule their rotation through the course according to availability in their training schedule.  

Where do I participate?

The Functional Fire Ground Program will be conducted in each battalion at one of the designated hub stations. The hub Stations are: Station 11, Station 12, Station 24, Station 5, and Station 31.

What are the benefits of the program?

The Functional Fire Ground Program provides a great opportunity to demonstrate competency of basic fireground skills. Participation will meet several core competencies and will be utilized for ISO 5 hours. This will serve as an evaluation tool for supervisors in determining individual growth needs or areas of concentration for crews.
